Happy Birthday, Maggie!

Today is Maggie's birthday.
In all actuality we have no idea when our fur-child was born, but given that she was about four months old when we got her and we picked her up on February 28, we counted back and made her birthday October 28.
She was then known as Daphne, the baby in a litter of four who had been brought down from the Port Hardy region to the Victoria SPCA. We (especially me) loved her from the minute we saw her, but tried to put the smart sides forward and ran the whole litter through tests. Our secret hope came true and our soon-to-be Maggie performed far and away the best on all of them. A few days later, Maggie became Maggie. She was all of 17 pounds at the beginning, and loved to sleep under a footstool, the coffee table or on my chest. We would walk around the neighborhood, Maggie learning a little bit about the sounds and smells of city life. She was always an eager cuddler, and when you would bring her on the couch, or just sit on the floor she would curl up in your lap like there was no other place she'd rather be.
She met her big cousin Niko and enjoyed pestering him to no end. She learned his rules quickly: don't bug me in the house, playing outside is fine. Now we need a picture like this with Kumeu as well and we'll have all the dog-family represented.
She has grown so much!
I still let her sleep on my chest...although 80 pounds is a lot to handle after a while.
4.5 months - sleeping with Moo Cow, her favourite toy
8 months? Look at those legs (and all those toys)!!
11.5 months - about 80 pounds and still has some filling out to do...yikes
She loves her Mummy best

But Daddy ain't so bad either
She is definitely playful and is always entertaining to watch.
And it's a good thing we bought a second Moo Cow, because sadly we had to put the first one to rest a few weeks ago.
She is not such an excellent help with home renovations. Too bad dogs don't understand "wet paint" signs. Lots of people commented on her interesting colouring after this...to which we replied that it was a home dye job.
She loves Nana and Grandpa G, and has learned that when Grandpa puts his coat on it means she's probably going outside so it's best to sit as his feet looking as cute as possible.
I have no pictures but when Grandma and Grandpa P are here she gets treated like royalty as well. Grandma gives the best hip rubs and Grandpa likes to take her out to wander the area and then sit in the back and chill out...just Maggie's speed.
She is a discerning creature, however, and needs her alone time. She likes to listen to music and chill out. How every emo of her. I can't wait for the adolescent angst to kick in.
She loves exploring on our daily walks. She's enjoying the fall weather and is so funny while playing in the leaves. She throws them with her mouth and jumps around in large piles.
Or just finds a nice bed.
She sure is comfortable at home though. She'll do anything for a belly rub, especially one from Daddy. And the positions she finds herself in are often more entertaining than anything we're watching on TV. We have recently discovered that she has ticklish feet. Who knew?
So often she sits and looks at us in these positions and with these expressions that make us feel as if there really is a little person in there.
But Maggie, we love you, and I can't imagine life without you. Happy Birthday!
