We've had a busy month. Work is work and although I enjoy it, it's never the MOST enjoyable part of my day. I always like coming home to these two the most.
Craig and I went to spend the weekend with our darling nephew Ty (oh, and Marc and Kylie). Craig got to meet him for the first time. Here's Maggie saying hello again...no licks, just snuffles. :)
We were so lucky last weekend to be present for Ty's baptism. It was wonderful to hear Marc and Kylie speak of their faith and the generous community they've come to be a part. A lot of what they both said hit home for me. Obviously Marc and I grew up in the same home and did many of the same things - we had "Aunts", "Uncles" and "Oma"s galore (Craig still can't keep them straight) to look out for us. Kylie mentioned how she struggled with the guilt of Christianity versus the joy, which I felt in my own life for a long time. It was wonderful to hear how these parts of their lives made them feel about parenthood.
Ty is the cutest baby ever. And although I had to compete with parents, friends and THREE doting grandparents for baby-time, they all shared wonderful (Ty has wonderful role-models, I'm sure he's soaking it all in already). We had a great time preparing for the celebration together, going for walks, and laughing at Maggie as she romped in and out of the water just to shake it all over us each in turn. It was hot out so it didn't feel so bad. She wanted to be part of everything. So much so that when we put her in the car, she tried to climb over my Dad's head to get into the seat with him.
It was especially great as Maggie took her very first doggie-paddle strokes! That's right, my baby is officially a swimmer. I took her to the ocean this week to see if it was a fluke and no, she's a water baby. We're happy to see her enjoy the water as it's such a great way for dogs to cool off in the heat and it provides such amazing exercise. And I mean, we live in Victoria, for crying out loud...what do we have a lot of access to but water? Just as long as she doesn't try and drink a lot of ocean water like she did before...the puking isn't exactly appreciated.
Coming up this summer? Gardening galore! Puppy playdates! Residence renewal! Voracious vistors! Winning wines! Bitchin' beaches! (Dad, did you just fall off your chair? HA!) Stay tuned...
